Estamos aqui!

HOLA!

Trenton and I have done it.  We packed up our stuff, quit our jobs (or I quit my job because Trent was already on a "sabbatical"), got babysitters for the pups, and made our way to Costa Rica!!!  I have no idea what is in store for us, but I know it is going to be good...real good. :)

Everyone we talk to you about our adventure thinks we're crazy, yet smart.  Two dichotomous words in their very nature yet complementary regarding our decision.  To sell all of your belongings (minus a few must-have wardrobe pieces), and leave the security of a decent career, health care, shelter, clean water, and familiar faces, is kind of nuts; however, the growth that awaits us is smart...maybe smart isn't the best word... wise. We are crazy and wise.  I just laughed out loud as I wrote that because by calling myself wise indicates how un-wise I actually am, but for the point of this post, and word aesthetics, just bear with me... comprende? :)

So, what brought me to this 'crazy' and amazingly 'wise' decision?  Well, my whole life I have been running from something or towards something.  My discontent in the present always had me look to external circumstances or possessions as the avenue to happiness.  However, that is not what this move/adventure/risk/leap of faith is about.  I am on a conquest.  A spiritual conquest.  I am going to find my spirit and I have approximately one year to do it. :) I suppose that is running towards something, but I believe it is a good thing.  In my opinion, it is humans' only responsibility to know their Creator and spirit, and now, that is my life's devotion.

I honestly cannot think of a better way to know and trust in an Omnipresence than to be stranded in the woods surrounded by snakes, spiders, possums, monkeys and crocodiles. Yes my friends, Costa Rica is a jungle and I am definitely an intruder. Only by the grace of God do I get out alive, or to be less dramatic, with minimum bug bites and urinated-drenched pants.  I hope the latter doesn't offend you, for you try to step outside late at night with the only light being a hint of green reflecting from gigantic spiders' eyes; and, there is a lot of green out there.  Then, to top it all off, I have a boyfriend whose sole-mission is to scare the pee right out of me. Literally.

Luckily for me and my laundry, we have made it to the beach!  Santa Teresa is a beautiful little town.  It consists of one dusty, dirt road that provides cars, SUVS, ATVS and motorcycles with a race track. People down here drive so fast; Trenton has been tempted to buy orange juice to throw it at them to get them to slow down.  They may not understand our spanglish, but orange juice bombs will send a message.  To Trent's dismay, the minute he gets orange juice, he downs it and all that is left is dust in our eyeballs from missed opportunities.  We are trying to assimilate however; we should probably get a face-mask as the other patrons seem to serenely wear. Despite the fast and furious muchachas, Santa Teresa seems like an amazing little yoga & surf town to set up camp for awhile.  Trenton is surfing almost every day and I am practicing yoga right on our hostel grounds; life honestly better stop throwing us damn curve balls. :)

Well, mis amigos, I just swatted an ant off my chest, so that is the cue to wrap it up and do a bed check before I settle in for my afternoon siesta. Some things never change no matter where your journey takes you.

Ciao for now,

Jamie

  1. Good first post! In the next one, give some geographical clues - I want to know where this place is. You know I'm a map freak.
